206. Say “No!” to the Surface You

The previous blog talked of being The Inward Person.

How can that be done? You have a body that is on the surface. You have a mind, will, and emotions that are below the surface but are not the deepest part of you. If you want the peace of the inner person, live out of your spirit.

Talk to God throughout the day, as Brother Lawrence did. Make God’s life more important than your own, as King David did. Keep God in mind every waking minute, as Frank Laubach did. Have a list of those you pray for daily, as C. S. Lewis did. Experience God in your creative imagination, as George MacDonald did.

These are your great cloud of witnesses. They are watching you and cheering you on. Finish the race strongly and receive your reward in heaven.

About Patrick Day

In 2010, I escaped from four long years of deep, dark depression. This blog shares lessons I learned from those years as depicted in my autobiography - How I Escaped from Depression - as well as other insights about depression and anxiety that only come from someone who has gone through it. When you have a heart attack, you become an expert in heart attacks. When you have diabetes, you become an expert in that condition. As such, I am an expert in depression, with a four-year experiential degree and graduate studies in how to live a life going forward that keeps the ever-lurking Depression at a healthy distance.
